Down and Nerdy: Auto-tuning Alex Trebek and the Rush documentary

IN WHICH a quizmaster is inappropriately treated, and the greatest rock band of all time finally gets some attention.

Briana's pick: Auto-tuning Alex Trebek

My friend Jennifer likes to watch Jeopardy. A lot. She even DVRs it. She’s also really good at Excel and making lists. She’s kind of a nerd. ANYWAY, she spoke recently about the obvious attempt Jeopardy is making to bring in a younger, hipper crowd. Here’s the plan thus far:

Step 1: hire young, attractive people, give them a clever name like “Clue Crew” and create their own Facebook page.

Step 2: make the answers easier.

Step 3: devote a category to Snoop Dogg.

Step 4: introduce Alex Trebek to Auto-Tune

So yes, here is my pick of the week. Alex Trebek singing children’s rhymes, folk songs, etc. distorted through the magic of Auto-Tune. It’s ridiculous. Ridiculously awesome!

James' pick: "Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage"

I am a Rush fan. Yes, one of those people. And the best thing to happen to Rush fans in a very long time is "Rush: Beyond the Lighted Stage," a new documentary about the band that's now on DVD, and is supposedly coming to Louisville theaters sometime this summer.

Even if you hate Rush – and I know some of you do, passionately – this is a great rock documentary that is really engaging to watch. They're fascinating, likable guys, and the movie is really well-made.
