Down and Nerdy: Lou. Astronomical Society and 'chap-hop'

IN WHICH we keep our teacups on the ground but keep reaching for the stars.

Briana’s pick: the Louisville Astronomical Society

It’s no secret that I love outer space. For now however, the closest I will get to it is through the lens of a telescope. Trust me, there is nothing like seeing the rings of Saturn through a magnified lens. The members of the Louisville Astronomical Society have some of the fanciest telescopes around and sometimes they let the public look through them.

Last Saturday, the Society offered a public observation at the Falls of the Ohio in Clarksville, IN. I’ve never been to the Falls at night, but I imagine that the view of the city across the river was worth the visit alone—not to mention the opportunity to see sunspots, craters on the moon, and distant planets.

James’ pick: Chap-hop

Ladies and gentlemen, the word for the day is "chap-hop" - this is rap as done by upper-crust British elite gentlemen. Do you ever find yourself mourning the fact that rap and hip-hop don't spend enough time discussing high tea and cricket and the Queen's English? Well of course you do. It is the lament of the age.

But the chaps are here to answer the call! Enjoy, for instance, "Straight Outta Surrey" by Mr. B the Gentleman Rhymer:

Too right! And get thee to the tobacconist in time to enjoy "Let Me Smoke My Pipe":

Finally, time for a nice cuppa. Here's Professor Elemental with "Cup of Brown Joy":
