Tuesday Featured Artist: Stevie Ray Vaughan

Listen for a song from our Tuesday Featured Artist every hour from 6 a.m. to  6 p.m.

This week we celebrate what would have been the 62nd birthday (October 3) of one the most influential and respected guitarists of all time; Stevie Ray Vaughan. With his astonishingly accomplished guitar playing, Stevie Ray ignited the blues revival of the ’80s. Vaughan drew equally from bluesmen like Albert King, Buddy Guy, and Albert Collins and rock & roll players like Jimi Hendrix and Lonnie Mack, as well as jazz guitarists like Kenny Burrell and Wes Montgomery, developing a uniquely eclectic and fiery style that sounded like no other guitarist, regardless of genre. Vaughan bridged the gap between blues and rock like no other artist had since the late ’60s. From 1983 to 1990 Stevie Ray was the leading light in American blues, consistently selling out concerts. His albums regularly went gold with great songs like Texas Flood, Crossfire, Look at Little Sister, Pride and Joy, Cold Shot, Couldn't Stand The Weather, The House Is Rockin', and Tightrope. SRV also played on the David Bowie classics Let's Dance and Modern Love. His tragic death in 1990 at age 35 cut short a brilliant career in blues and American rock & roll just as he was on the brink of super-stardom, but his music and legacy live on. The legendary Stevie Ray Vaughan is our Tuesday Featured Artist!
