The “FPK Cover Shot” photo contest is made possible with support from Murphy’s Camera

Do you have a photo you feel captures the spirit of WFPK? We’re taking submissions for the cover of our next CD, WFPK Live: Volume 10. If we choose your photo, you’ll receive a $100 gift certificate from Murphy’s Camera! Deadline to enter is Friday, March 18, at 5 p.m. EST.

To enter, follow the instructions below:

Upload Photo via Flickr
To submit your photos via Flickr, use your Yahoo! ID, Google or Facebook to login to www.flickr.com. If you do not have an account, you can sign up for free on the Flickr website. (Flickr and Yahoo! are trademarks of Yahoo, Inc.) After logging in, upload your images using the mechanism provided. After the photo has been uploaded, tag it with “WFPK10.” Any photos not properly tagged will not be considered for the contest.

Technical Specifications
You must be 18 years of age or older to submit a photograph. Submissions must be in JPEG (.jpg or .jpeg) digital format, with the smallest dimension being at least 1,600 pixels (or larger).

Rights Granted
By uploading a photograph, you agree to the Terms of Use, which follow: You retain all of your ownership rights in material you upload (“User Content”). By uploading User Content, however, you grant Louisville Public Media the following rights: a royalty-free, worldwide, perpetual license to display, distribute, reproduce, and create derivatives of the User Content, in whole or in part, without further review or participation from you, in any medium now existing or subsequently developed, in editorial, commercial, promotional, and trade uses in connection with LPM.

If Your Photograph Is Selected
To qualify for the contest, you must comply with the following additional requirements: In the event original works of art owned by third parties appear in the Photograph, you must be prepared to provide an Artist Release signed by the third party copyright holder (download the Artist Release). In the event recognizable people appear in your Photograph, you must be prepared to provide the Personal Release signed by those people, authorizing our use of the Photograph (download the Personal Release).

In celebration of their new release, The Wild Mercury (2/19), on WhiteSpace Records, we’ve invited Vandaveer to be our next Artist in Residence! Lead singer/songwriter, Mark Charles Heidinger, recently moved from D.C. with his family to make his home in Louisville. We’re excited he and the band will spend some time with us before they kick off a tour in support of the new album. Make sure you catch one of these live performances and introduce yourself to this amazing band!

Join us for a Prohibition Era Dance Party as we say goodbye to 2015 live from Headliners! WFPK DJ’s Matt Anthony and Woodrow on the Radio will be spinning wax.  Billy Goat Strut Revue is our house band and will be joined by guest vocalists Zach Longoria and Carly Johnson. Burlesque troupe, Vaudeville Louisville will be there too! Tickets are just $20 in advance, $25 at the door and on sale now. We sold out early last year, so order your tickets now!

8:00pm – Competition winners, Warren Erath and Collyn Justus will provide a beginner friendly swing dance lesson.  No partner required.
9:00pm – Broadcast begins with WFPK’s Woodrow on the Radio and DJ Matt Anthony. Check out the go go dancers on our live stream!
10:30pm – Billy Goat Strut Revue takes the stage. They’ll be joined by Zach Longoria and Carly Johnson on guest vocals AND provide live music for the burlesque show with Vaudeville Louisville!
Midnight – Balloon Drop…DJ’s second set.

Pictured Events will be there throughout the evening for your photo taking fun. Get a big group together, or snuggle with your sweetie. Keep all the memento photos you want; they’re free with the price of admission!

For Billie Holiday’s centennial celebration, we follow her from her beginnings through a complex life of troubles and musical triumphs, her compelling “autumn” voice and untimely passing at age 44.  Cassandra Wilson describes and sings her approach to the Billie Holiday oeuvre. From our archives we hear Nina Simone and Bonnie Raitt praising their blues heroines in story and song.

–“HANK WILLIAMS, SR. SPECIAL” with Berk Bryant (Noon – 3pm)
New Year’s Day tradition honoring the great Hank Williams, Sr. with rare recordings, interviews, and the expertise of Mr. Berk Bryant on the day Hank died.

–LITTLE STEVEN’S UNDERGROUND GARAGE NEW YEAR’S SPECIAL (3-5pm)
