Remembering Allan Toussaint: A Saint for all Seasons. We celebrate the song-maker, piano “professor” and producer from New Orleans who passed away suddenly in November.  A beloved Creole gentleman, Allen Toussaint was a hometown hero and giant on the American music scene.

It’s A Holiday Party with Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings.

–A SOUND CLASH CHRISTMAS WITH MATT ANTHONY (8-midnight)
Matt sprinkle in some holiday music on this edition of the Sound Clash with a special tribute to James Brown in the 11 O’clock hour.  The “Godfather of Soul” passed away on Christmas Day in 2006.

For Billie Holiday’s centennial celebration, we follow her from her beginnings through a complex life of troubles and musical triumphs, her compelling “autumn” voice and untimely passing at age 44.  Cassandra Wilson describes and sings her approach to the Billie Holiday oeuvre. From our archives we hear Nina Simone and Bonnie Raitt praising their blues heroines in story and song.

–“HANK WILLIAMS, SR. SPECIAL” with Berk Bryant (Noon – 3pm)
New Year’s Day tradition honoring the great Hank Williams, Sr. with rare recordings, interviews, and the expertise of Mr. Berk Bryant on the day Hank died.

–LITTLE STEVEN’S UNDERGROUND GARAGE NEW YEAR’S SPECIAL (3-5pm)

WFPK Artist In Residence: Anderson East

Hot off the release of his album Delilah, on producer Dave Cobb’s (Jason Isbell) new imprint, we’ve invited Anderson East and his band to visit Louisville and stay a few days! Anderson lives in Nashville by way of Athens, AL (Alabama Shakes). He’s touring with Brandi Carlile and The Lone Bellow and just appeared on the nationally syndicated radio program, World Cafe! Excited yet? You will be, when you catch one of these FREE high energy live performances!

Broadcasting Live From Forecastle 2015!

WFPK is your official Forecastle station. The fun begins this Friday, July 17, at noon as we welcome guest DJ’s to the WFPK studio! Laura Shine broadcasts on location from 3-6pm, then listen for performances from the WFPK Port Stage all weekend! Stop by the WFPK booth at the festival and snap some shots in our photo booth to post on social media. Look for us on your way to the WFPK Port Stage on the Harbor Lawn!
