Nobody told James Bickers that it was picture day. Fourth grade. So he did what any perfectly normal geek kid would have done on that crisp autumn day: He wore his Styx t-shirt to school. That photo of young James in a Styx shirt, proud as if he had any sense, is floating around somewhere.
But he’d rather you didn’t have to see it. He’d prefer that you listen in on Saturday mornings, when he has the unabashed pleasure of playing great music.
In fact, James has been a familiar voice on Louisville’s public radio airwaves for nearly 20 years. It all started with his literary interview show on WFPL, then afternoon jazz on WFPK, then on to an eight-year stint as the morning drive host on WFPK.
He is blissfully married with three young kids and blogs at jamesbickers.com.
You can hear James every Saturday, from 9 a.m. to noon.
