Bonnaroo 2008: Worth The Gas?

I've been looking around different web forumsto see what people are posting re: this year's show. Will $4.00 a gallon gas keep concert goers away? For people in the Kentuckianna area, Bonnaroo is the closest major rock festival around, so likely not. Othe rs seem to be looking to carpool more than in previous years.

I've read a few complaints re: the headliners this year, namely Metallica & Pearl Jam. Some feel these bands don't fall into the 'Bonnaroo Spirit' of jam bands. This is kind of silly since Bonnaroo has always embraced a variety of musical styles. Complaints were heard back in 2004 when Dave Matthews Band was announced as a headliner ("Oh no, the Frat crowd will take 'Roo over") and again in 2006 re: Tom Petty ("The old people will invade") but the festival survived and thrived anyway. I'll never forget hearing some 60,000 people singing along to every note of Petty's classic songs. Apparently, nether will Petty himself; I heard him talk about that evening a few weeks later on NPR's Fresh Airprogram.

I'm sure 2008's Bonnaroo will turn out to be another magical 4 days under the hot Tennessee sun.
