We have something and someone a little different today on the Paws Report at 3:30pm on WFPK. Usually it's a representative from the Ky. Humane Society and an adoptable pet. Today we have a rescue organization called Second Hand Petswho coordinate out-of-town adoptions of rescues from local and regional shelters. For example they brought my beautiful Bella to me a year ago on the day she was to be euthanized at the shelter in Lincoln County. A dedicated volunteer named Nicole Smith Murphy picked Bella up from the shelter and delivered her to me in Louisville. But quite often they coordinate with many transporters who take the animals across country to either No-Kill Shelters or people waiting to adopt them in other states. Personally, I like the name "Underhound Railroad" as an umbrella title for the many organizations such as Second Hand Pets and United Rescues of Kentucky for the great work they are doing. Nicole will be on the air with me today to talk about just a few of the many pets in need who are at the Lincoln County Shelter whose time is of essence. Miss Mira is an extremely happy, sweet, and affectionate purebred Kentucky "Heck-If-I-Know." Maybe a bit beagle, a bit labrador retriever, a bit terrier, she is the spitting image of this week's in studio canine guest Clover, who relocated from Lincoln County to Louisville two years ago. Mira is always smiling, and gets so excited when humans come to visit her that she sits down to wag her tail and get comfortable to soak up all the love you can give her. At 40 pounds and maybe a year old, she would be a marvelous addition to a loving Louisville-area family. And she is VERY quickly running out of time.
