Ok, so I left my laptop in the press tent to grab a salad and I came back to find that somebody had moved my stuff slightly. I’m very territorial about my stuff. My chair had been taken by some guy; I considered asking for it back, but I have my own folding chair so I flopped down in that & went back to work. Only then did I realize I’m sitting across from Wayne Coyne from The Flaming Lips. If I had tried to be smooth and sit down that close I never could have pulled it off!
Started the day watching Trombone Shorty. Wow! The guy can blow! He had a member of Galactic sitting in with his regular band performing a tight, energetic set He has a wonderful second-line backbeat to his music so despite the heat he got the crowd doing that little bounce up and down, groove with the music dance. I moved up to the front of the stage and got a few picks during his show.
Next it was back to my camp (I know where it is now) to get fresh water. I brought a thermometer; It was 114 degrees at 2:30 pm on Friday afternoon. Ha! What’s a little heat? Then I hightailed it over to hear The Carolina Chocolate Drops. I couldn’t really see ‘em from where I was… out in the sun… baking alive… but they sounded great. Now back for more music including She & Him and OK Go!
